Howard Becomes BGSU’s New Stolen Base King
May 13, 2015 | Baseball
Bowling Green State University baseball has fielded a varsity baseball team for 95 seasons. No individual has ever stolen more bases in a season than current redshirt senior Brandon Howard. Howard, who swiped his 33rd and 34th bags of the season on Tuesday versus Dayton, now owns the single-season record for most stolen bases in BGSU baseball history. He also sits just 11 stolen bases shy of the all-time record headed into the weekend against Buffalo.
Howard, who stole just nine bases during his first two-plus seasons in a Falcon uniform, has stolen 57 bases over the last two seasons. In 2013, Howard finished with 23 stolen bases, good for sixth in a single-season. But, headed into his senior season, the Cincinnati native was poised for even bigger things. Howard stole just 10 bases in the first 21 games of the 2015 season, but has taken 24 bases in the last 26 games for the Falcons.
Over the last two seasons, Howard has been as efficient as they come in stealing bases during MAC play. Howard is 33-of-35 in stolen base attempts during the last two seasons in conference action. After stealing 17 bases last season, Howard has swiped 16 bases in MAC play this season. The Falcons' second baseman is just three off the MAC lead in stolen bases this season.
On April 12, 2015, Howard set BGSU history with his four stolen bases in a win at Ohio. After having stolen three bases in a game several times throughout the last two seasons, Howard swiped four bags to vault to the top of the Falcon record books.
Howard and the Falcons will wrap up the 2015 regular season with a three-game series against Buffalo beginning on Thursday afternoon. The Queen City Speedster will look to continue to distance himself from Falcons past, present, and future in the record books against the Bulls at Steller Field.
