Three Falcons Named To Baseball Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Mid-American Conference announced the baseball Academic All-MAC team on Friday morning, with three members of the Bowling Green State University squad earning recognition. Greg Basalyga, Jason Link, and Rob Zenas all earned honors for the first time in their careers.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Season: Started 46 games for the Falcons as a sophomore, playing in 53 of 54 … finished the year batting .297 with a slugging percentage of .446 … hit nine doubles, a triple and tied for the team lead with five home runs … had 12 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games on the year … started the season by hitting safely in six straight games, including a three-hit game in the season-opener at Southeast Missouri … had two RBI in two of three games against Eastern Kentucky … had a career-high two doubles in a March 24 game at Michigan … had two hits and three RBI, including his first home run of the season, in a win over Findlay (March 31) … had five hits, eight RBI, and two home runs in a weekend series at home against Miami … had a 3-for-4 day with 3 RBI in a win at Central Michigan on April 26 … also had three hits on May 10 at Kent State … had multiple hits in each of the final two games of the regular season, including his fourth home run of the year on May 15 vs. Buffalo … hit a crucial home run to the opposite field in a MAC Tournament win over Western Michigan (May 22) … finished the season with 29 runs scored and 33 RBI.

Season: Pitched in 11 games for the Falcons, finishing with a team-low 2.25 ERA … compiled 15 strikeouts in 24.0 innings pitched … started one game, going 4.0 innings in a win against Dayton on May 12 … struck out three batters in two different games – April 29 at Toledo and May 16 against Buffalo … issued just five walks on the season … twice pitched a career-high 4.0 innings down the stretch – May 12 vs. Dayton and May 23 in the MAC Tournament vs. Ohio.
