TUSCON, Ariz.—Bowling Green State University freshman standout Zac Carey (London, Ohio) was named to the Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team following the conclusion of the 2015 season. Carey is the third Falcon in the history of the program to earn the national recognition, joining Len Elias (1999) and Tyler Saneholtz (2002).
"We are extremely proud of Zac for the freshman season that he had," head coach Danny Schmitz began. "He worked extremely hard since day one on campus and really put together a special freshman season. He is deserving of all the recognition that he has earned following a great season."
Carey, who was the Mid-American Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year, finished the season with a 7-3 record. He started 14 games for the Orange and Brown, finishing with a 3.43 earned run average. Carey went 7-0 over his final 10 outings of the season with a 2.40 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched.
He finished the season with six MAC wins, the most of any pitcher in the conference. He was the only starting pitcher in the conference to go undefeated during league play, finishing seventh in the MAC with a 2.40 ERA. Carey held opponents to a .212 batting average against, which was also seventh-best in the league.
Carey's most impressive stretch of the season came over four games, which spanned from April 12 to May 3. During that stretch, the right-handed pitcher went 4-0 with a 0.56 ERA. He pitched 32.1 innings, allowing just 19 hits and two earned runs. His most impressive outing of the season came during that stretch, a complete-game shutout victory over Western Michigan. That win earned him MAC East Pitcher of the Week honors. Carey walked just 17 batters in 78.2 innings pitched, while striking out 25.
