Falcons Finish Fifth in the Nation on WBCA Honor Roll List

BGSU earns a top-25 ranking for the sixth time in the last seven years
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team had yet another successful season in the classroom in 2014-15. In fact, the Falcons were more successful than nearly every other Division-I team in the nation.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its 2014-15 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, and BGSU is ranked fifth in the entire nation on the NCAA Division I list. BG has made the list six times in the last seven years.
"Congratulations to our student-athletes for earning a top-five national ranking for academic achievement," said Falcon head coach Jennifer Roos. "We are very fortunate to work with great student-athletes at Bowling Green who are committed to maximizing their academic opportunities and taking advantage of the resources available to them.
"With a 3.594 average, the 14-15 women's basketball team achieved the highest team overall GPA in our program's history and earned the highest national academic ranking ever for our program. BGSU women's basketball takes great pride in having been ranked in the Top 25 academically in seven of the last nine seasons."
The Falcons were ranked fifth on the 2008-09 list, sixth in '09-10, 11th in '10-11, 24th three seasons ago and 25th last year, before vaulting back up to fifth place this season.
The WBCA awards recognized teams throughout the country that have the highest grade-point averages (GPA) for the 2014-15 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
The Falcons, as mentioned, had a team GPA of 3.594 for the '14-15 campaign. A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPA's are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams are nominated for the honor by a WBCA-member head coach. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA to be nominated.
"The WBCA applauds these teams for their commitment to academic excellence during the 2014-15 school year," said Danielle Donehew of the WBCA. "The student-athlete experience is an exciting and challenging time period and we appreciate these programs for setting an academic standard that other teams can strive to achieve. We value the hard work and dedication the players and coaches have put forth to thrive in the classroom and on the basketball court."
The WBCA Academic Top 25 presented by AT&T annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2014-25 season is the 20th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls.
BGSU made the WBCA's list for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. In addition to the aforementioned years, the Falcons also made the WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll in 2006-07 (23rd).
