Cross Country Teams Preseason Update
August 27, 2015 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams are into the second week of an extremely busy preseason practice schedule. Along with practice, the teams also helped move in underclassmen, the women's team had a competitive cooking challenge and classes began this week.
"It's been going well," redshirt sophomore Nathan Kuck said. "A lot of the guys came in fit and faster than we've ever been. We have a lot of good incoming freshmen – eight of them. It seems to be coming together really well."
Although it is still early in the conditioning process, head coach Lou Snelling believes the preseason has been a positive foundation for the rest of the season.
Both teams are ready to hit the course, compete and begin the season, with senior Becca Rae being one of them.
"I'm looking forward to getting back out there and racing," Rae said. "It's been a while because we didn't have any races over the summer. Since outdoor track and field we haven't really had the opportunity. Cross country is such a different dynamic compared to track."
The team opens its season Friday, Sept. 4 at home with the annual Mel Brodt Collegiate Open against Toledo and Cleveland State. The men begin the 5,000-meter race at 6:30 pm and the women will race the same distance at 7 pm.
"This will be a good opportunity for us to open the season," Snelling said. "We need to get that first race under our belt and move onto bigger things down the road."
