Athletics, Sport Management Strengthen Partnership For 2015-16 Season
September 15, 2015 | General
The Bowling Green Department of Athletics and the University's sport management program have always worked together to further the mission of BGSU. But in the 2015-16, the two areas will extend that partnership even further to provide a variety of learning experiences at BGSU athletics events.
Â
Developed through a collaboration between Kit Hughes, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Jim Elsasser, Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs, and Dr. Amanda Koba, an associate professor at BGSU, the partnership will give students real-life opportunities to work within an athletics program, while providing BGSU Athletics with more manpower on game days.
Â
"Our partnership will include sport management majors in the 3010 class as part of our game day staff," Elsasser said. "This field experience will place students in vital roles, including the areas of marketing, guest relations, ticket operations, facility operations, Falcon Club, athletic communications, as well as others."
Â
"The collaboration will bring to life what our students are learning in the classroom," Koba said. "They have a great opportunity to gain real world sport industry experience in a Division I athletics department and learn how a variety of different areas work to produce a game day experience."
Â
Students will be responsible for working at a minimum of two home football games and three other athletics events. Participants can choose from men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, hockey and volleyball.
Â
"This provides a lab setting for the sport and event management class," Koba said. "Students will be able to identify and witness the concepts learned in the classroom in action at the various sporting events they volunteer at throughout the semester."
Â
The two areas have partnered numerous times in the past, most recently as part of a preview day for sport management. The story from that day can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

The BGSU sport management program is a part of the School of Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies, within the College of Education and Human Development.
