BGSU Tennis Wins Two Titles As Invite Concludes

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team won a single and a doubles final on Saturday at the BGSU Invitational, as the two-day tournament concluded. The invite was comprised of eight schools competing at a very high level. The Falcons gained experience for use in the spring.
"This invite is very important," Head Coach Olga Elkin said. "It's huge for them to gain experience, confidence and get all of the kinks out before going into the spring."
In the singles flights, freshman Polina Radeva had a successful weekend going undefeated before falling to Sidnay Huck of Toledo in the championship with a tie-breaker 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-8.
Paula Comella Aguilo, dominated the flight 2 singles championship winning 6-2, 6-0 against Detroit's Valeryia Kulikovskaya.
In flight 3 singles, sophomore Emily Witt crushed the competition and made her way to the championship match Saturday playing Melika LaBlanc of UIC, Witt was defeated 6-0, 6-2.
After a tough weekend, junior Leeah Floyd defeated Elizabeth Mendes of Evansville 8-1 taking 7th place for flight 6.
The duo of Comella and senior Drew Fillis had a great weekend taking out everyone in their path winning the championship in the top flight for doubles. They faced Darzyan and Crasta of Evansville winning 6-3 in the final round.
The Radeva and Witt combo who lost in the second round rallied back to win 3rd place in flight 2 doubles defeating Wright State's Verstrepen and Turner 6-4.
"I am very happy with the results from this weekend and I saw positive things from all of the girls," Elkin said. "We are excited to get back to work these next few weeks to finish strong in our last fall tournament."
The Falcons will be back in action on Oct. 2 at the UIC Invite in Chicago, Ill.
