Lewis, Walny Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
September 21, 2015 | Football, General, Women's Cross Country
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are football player Roger Lewis and women's cross country runner Rachel Walny.
Male Athlete of the Week
Roger Lewis, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, caught seven passes for a career-high 261 yards and three touchdowns Saturday against a defense which had allowed just 272 yards through the air in its first two games. Lewis' 261 yards receiving were the second-most in school history and seventh-most in MAC history for a single game. His three touchdown performance was the first such effort since the 2013 season and he now leads the country with 510 receiving yards through three games, becoming the first player in BGSU history to have consecutive 200-yard receiving games.
Female Athlete of the Week
Rachel Walny, a redshirt freshman from Clinton Township, Mich., placed third out of 318 runners at the Spartan Invitational. Racing in her first 6,000-meter competition of her collegiate career, she ran a time of 21:26, placing behind only Michigan State's Rachele Schulist, an All-American a year ago, and the Spartans' Alexis Wiersma, who just missed All-American status in 2014. Walny has been the top Falcon finisher in each of her two races this year.
