Rachel Walny Named MAC Runner Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio -- Bowling Green State University women's cross country runner Rachel Walny was named runner of the week today by the Mid-American Conference.
With just two races under her belt, Walny is making a huge impact for the Falcons. Racing in her first 6,000-meter competition, Walny placed first for BG and third overall out of 318 runners at the Spartan Invitational with a time of 21:26. The competition was fierce with top teams and runners from last season. She finished behind two Michigan State runners, one of whom was fourth in the nation a year ago and the other who was just short of All-American status last season.
In her first collegiate race three weeks ago, Walny won the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open with a time of 17:20.1. Her time was 17 seconds faster than any other competitor at the meet.
BGSU cross country will next compete Oct. 2 as the women will head to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Paul Short Run and the men will travel to the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
