Gymnastics Announces 2016 Schedule
September 29, 2015 | Gymnastics
Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University gymnastics program, led by ninth year head coach, Kerrie Turner, released its full schedule for the 2016 season Wednesday afternoon.
"The 2016 gymnastics schedule is packed full of exciting opponents," said Turner. "We have plenty of opportunities to build excellent home and road scores in our quest for team qualification to NCAA regionals."
The Falcons compete in six Mid-American Conference meets, while hosting four in Anderson Arena, and for the first time in program history, one at the Stroh Center.
"Big 12 gymnastics affiliate, the University of Denver, is a top program nationally and I am so pleased that we will host this meet in the Stroh Center, our first competition to be held there," added Turner.
Coming off a season that saw three team scores break inside of the top 10 in program history, the Falcons open the season on Jan. 8 at PAC 12's Arizona State and then travel to Western Michigan Jan. 17 to open up MAC competition.
Turner says starting the season at ASU "will help our program prepare for a busy road schedule including West Virginia, UNC, NC State and Pittsburgh."
BGSU welcomes Alaska-Anchorage to Anderson Arena Jan. 23 and will host Denver the following weekend at the Stroh Center on Jan. 30. The Falcons will also host Eastern Michigan and Southeast Missouri State Feb. 13, Central Michigan March 4 and Northern Illinois March 12.
The Falcons will participate in their only quad meet of the season when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face UNC, along with NC State and Pittsburgh. Bowling Green makes a mid-season trip to defending MAC champions Kent State Feb. 21, followed by a meet at Ball State Feb. 28.
On March 6, BGSU will compete in a tri-meet at West Virginia with Ohio State, while traveling to Illinois State just four days later to wrap up non-conference play.
MAC Championships will take place on March 19 at Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
In addition to eight newcomers this upcoming season, Turner returns three-time regional qualifier and First Team All-MAC selection Alyssa Nocella, as well as MAC co-vault champion junior Lauren Feely.
