Nell, Porter Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Chris Nell and track and field athlete Raven Porter.

Male Athlete of the Week
Chris Nell, a sophomore from Green Bay, Wisc., stopped 55-of-57 shots on the weekend with a 0.99 goals against average and a .965 save percentage. He stopped 24 shots in a 3-1 win over Lake Superior State Friday night and then had 31 saves Saturday night to force overtime tied at 0-0. Nell ranks second in the country in both goals against average and save percentage and has not allowed more than three goals in any game this year.

Female Athlete of the Week
Raven Porter, a junior from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, posted the best high jump performance in the Mid-American Conference this year, leaping a new personal-best 1.75m (5-feet-8.75) to capture the title at the BG Opener. Her mark, which ranks 15th in the country so far this year, was 2.5 inches higher than her previous best. She equaled her previous career best of 1.65m on her first attempt at the height and then cleared 1.70m on just her second attempt. She surpassed 1.75m on her third and final chance before failing to clear 1.78m.
