Four Falcons Bound for NCAA East Regional
May 26, 2026 | Women's Track and Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Four Falcons are leaving for Lexington on Wednesday, all seeking a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The top 48 marks in each event automatically qualify for NCAA Regionals. With a regional in the east and the west, the top 12 individuals in each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Kylee Cubbison, Rachael Hoover, Bianca Staples and Kiera Bonds each qualified. The four have posted some of the best performances in program history this season.
Cubbison qualified in the 1500 meters for the second time in her collegiate career. Last season, she finished 22nd at 4:20.36, a time that nearly matched her gold medal race at the MAC Outdoor Championships this year (4:20.85). The All-MAC First Teamer shattered her own school record at the Bryan Clay Invitational, posting a 4:15.16 finish. The standout senior also holds the school record in the 5,000 meters.
Hoover, a fellow MAC First Teamer, also qualified on the track. The sophomore claimed her first MAC title in the 800 meters a week ago, winning in 2:08.12. She also set a school record in the event at the Duke Twilight, qualifying at 2:05.01. Her school-record mark of 2:05.01 was the second-fastest 800-meter time in the conference since at least 2013, and she also rose to second all-time in program history in the 1500 (4:16.91).
The other two qualifiers are from the jumps squad.
First, Kiera Bonds reached regionals in the long jump. Her 6.19-meter leap in Louisville broke Huina Han's 1998 6.12-meter school record. Bonds finished fourth at the MAC Championships and has also demonstrated tremendous versatility. She also competed in the triple jump this year and was on a 4x100 relay team that finished third at the MAC Championships (45.77).
Finally, Bianca Staples will compete in the triple jump. The senior qualified for her third straight regional with a 12.86-meter jump in Louisville, ranking her third on BGSU's all-time list. She'll compete Saturday in Lexington, looking to build on her podium finish at the MAC Championships.
The NCAA East Regional will begin Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. and will conclude Saturday, May 30 at 5 p.m. The West Regional begins and ends on the same dates in Fayetteville, Ark.
