Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will play just one match this weekend, facing Northern Kentucky University on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 pm in Dayton, Ohio.
The Falcons are now 1-1 on the season after traveling to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State and to Detroit, Mich. to compete against the Titans. The team split the weekend losing to the Buckeyes 7-0, then went on to defeat the Titans 5-2 to capture the team's first win since the 2013-14 season.
In Columbus, freshman Polina Radeva's match against Gabriella De Santis in No.1 singles came down to a tie-breaker. Radeva won the first set 6-2, Santis came back to win the second set 6-4 and the tie-breaker 1-0 (10-8).
Senior Drew Fillis put up a fight against Olivia Sneed. Fillis fell 7-5 in the first set then 6-0 in the second set.
Against Detroit in singles, the Falcons earned wins from sophomore Emily Witt and three freshmen in Polina Radeva, Paula Comella Aguilo and Marina Ferrero. The matches were no easy task. Radeva and Witt both had to rally back after losing the first set to get their victories.
BG had two duos earn wins against Detroit, Radeva and Witt, along with Aguilo and Drew Fillis.
In No. 1 doubles, Radeva and Witt would pick up their sixth win of the season defeating Kulikoyskaya and Slizovskaya of Detroit, 7-5.
With an overall doubles record of 9-3, Aguilo and Fillis beat the Titans' Davydova and Van Der Goot in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-1.
Northern Kentucky opens the spring portion of their schedule on Friday. This is the second meeting between the Falcons and the NKU Norse.
