BGSU Athletics Supports Toledo Runner In Time Of Need
January 27, 2016 | General, Women's Track and Field, Falcon Club
Bowling Green, Ohio – At 7:07 p.m. on Jan. 19, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team and the University of Toledo Rockets met on the hardwood in an exciting 40 minute contest inside the Stroh Center in the Battle of I-75. At 5:00 p.m. on Jan 22, the BGSU track and field team battled Toledo at the Tom Wright Open in Perry Field House in another rivalry battle.
While the competition is fierce and the rivalry exists on the field, court and pool, the two Universities reside just 25 miles apart along I-75 in Northwest Ohio. Rivalry aside, BGSU's Falcon Club and the BGSU Track and Field team donated funds from each event to the recovery fund for UT women's cross country runner Janelle Noe, who was in intensive care at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after suffering second- and third-degree burns on her body.

On Friday, January 15th, 2016 a tragic accident left Janelle severely burned across a majority of her body. Burns of varying degrees now cover her from head to knee. She is faced with a very long, painful and scary recovery process in the weeks and months to come.
Plastic surgery and skin grafts as well as general hospital fees will be an enormous burden on Janelle's family.
"It is fair to say that BGSU and Toledo have developed a healthy rivalry," Associate Athletics Director for Development Dan Meyer said. "We want our student-athletes to compete with intensity to beat the Rockets at every opportunity. But we would be failing our mission if we lost sight of the critical importance of sportsmanship and in applying the principles of compassion to our everyday lives. If this contribution makes Janelle's recovery even the slightest-bit easier, then it supersedes wins and losses."
While Noe is improving, she has a long way to go in her recovery. BGSU's Falcon Club donated its portion of the 50/50 pot from the men's basketball game to Janelle's recovery fund. BGSU Track and Field donated the entire gate from the Tom Wright Open as well. In total, the two groups gave more than $1,500.
"As a program we wanted to help out in some way and the team was immediately unanimous on this idea," BGSU Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Lou Snelling said. "The track and field and cross country communities are closely-knit and Janelle's situation is one that needs our support. We are proud to make this small sacrifice for her benefit."
BGSU Athletics encourages others to join in donating. To donate by mail, donors can make out checks to "The University of Toledo." Please note "Janelle Noe Recovery Fund" on the memo line and sent to:
