Orange And Brown Face Flyers, No. 33 Irish This Weekend

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team will play against both Dayton and Notre Dame this weekend. The Falcons will face the Flyers on Friday at the Perrysburg Tennis Center beginning at 12 pm. The team will then travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Fighting Irish Sunday at 5 pm.
The Falcons fell to 1-2 on the season after traveling to Dayton, Ohio to take on Northern Kentucky. NKU defeated Bowling Green 5-2 but not without a fight.
Two members of the Orange and Brown improved their dual meet singles records to 2-1 after Friday's match. At No. 2, Paula Comella Aguilo took down NKU's Danielle Donahue in two sets winning the first 6-4 and the second 6-1. Emily Witt, who lost her first set 6-1, bounced back and won the next two sets, 6-1, 7-5.
Fighting to the finish were freshmen Polina Radeva and Marina Ferrero. The two battled through three set matches before falling to the Norse.
In doubles, Aguilo and senior Drew Fillis captured their second win of the season. The No. 2 doubles team defeated Klara Skopac and Donahue, 6-4.
Dayton enters the weekend with a 1-1 record on the season. The Flyers fell to Wright State 4-3 and defeated Youngstown State 4-1. This is the second meeting between BG and Dayton. The last time the two met was during the 1986-87 season when the
Falcons defeated the Flyers 8-1. A year ago, the Flyers went 9-10 overall.
No. 32 Notre Dame is coming off of two losses to No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 27 Arizona State. This is the third time these two teams will face each other. The Falcons are 0-2 on the series with the most recent match having been played during the 2012-13 campaign when Notre Dame was ranked 19th in the country. A year ago, the Fighting Irish went 14-12 overall, 8-6 in the ACC, and finished at No. 19.
Following this weekend's matches, the Falcons will have two home matches at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. BG will play the University of Illinois-Chicago Saturday at 2:30 pm and Wright State Sunday at 12 pm.
