Despite Morning Fog Delays, Men's Golf Completes 34 Holes of Action

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – After a foggy morning of delays, the Bowling Green men's golf team was only able to squeeze in one complete round of play in the first day of the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, hosted by West Virginia. After the first round, the Falcons sat tied for eighth with a team score of 298, +10 in the 14-team field.
Combining for a total of 23 birdies and a tournament-leading 109 pars, the Falcons managed to get through the first round and sat tied for eighth, then made it through majority of the second round with the exception of the last two holes.
Sophomore Pablo Heredia Inglesias led the Bowling Green squad through the first round by marking an 18-hole score of 71, -1. The mark is the second-lowest round the Sevilla, Spain native has shot this fall season, and was achieved by notching a team-high of six birdies and going -3 on par 5 scoring, ultimately placing him in a tie for seventh overall on the leaderboards.
Jumping in the standings individually for the Falcons was senior Brett Rinker, who carded an even score of 72 in the first round. The Slippery Rock, Pa. native led the Bowling Green lineup in pars with 19 on the day in addition to two birdies, en route to a tied placing of 12th overall through the first 18 of play.
By hitting a first round of 76, +4, senior Jose Narro currently sits tied for 42nd overall. The native of Tampico, Mexico earned a -1 mark in par five scoring, 18 pars and three birdies after the first round of competition.
Redshirt sophomore Max Rispler has been a standout of the fall season, and continued with his consistent play by carding 14 pars, a +1 on par three scoring, and a team-high of six birdies on day one. With a first round score of 79, +7, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native is tied for 57th place after the first day of action.
New to the lineup for the Falcons is junior Mitchell Kontak, who shot a score of 81, +9 in his first round of competition in the fall season. Kontak stood out on the leaderboards by tallying a team-leading mark of 2.83, -1 on par three scoring. The native of Toledo, Ohio also sunk 13 pars and four birdies on the day.
