Falcons Advance At Regionals

Doubles Results - Friday

East Lansing, Mich – The Bowling Green State University tennis team completed the last of the singles qualifying matches as well as doubles qualifying matches Friday afternoon at the ITA Midwest Regionals. Sophomore Paula Comella and freshmen Anna Kholodnaya and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash will represent the Falcons in the singles main draw Saturday at 10 a.m.

"Every court was a battle today and we were fortunate enough to get through the singles qualifying matches," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "I'm very proud of the freshmen for fighting so hard for a spot in the main draw it's going to be another great day of tennis tomorrow."

In singles, Kholodnaya picked up her third win of the weekend by defeating Sidnay Huck of Toledo, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 and will play in the main draw Saturday against Illinois' Daniela Pedraza-Novak. Tavpash earned a spot in the main draw and will take on Adey Osabuohien of Northern Illinois.

Freshman Ayumi Sasaki defeated Youngstown State's Sofia Macias in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5) in her consolation qualifying singles match. Sophomore Polina Radeva pushed her singles match to three sets, but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-2, 13-11 to Jerricka Boone of Illinois.

In doubles, freshman Megan Horn and Sasaki captured a win for the Orange and Brown by taking down Lloyd and Gamboa of Chicago State, 8-4. The duo fell in the second round to Eastern Michigan's Martinovska and Mayerova, 8-2.

Comella and Tavpash teamed up for a doubles victory downing Thioux and Maitrot of Detroit, 8-1. The pair was defeated by Illinois' Casati and Pedraza-Novak, 8-3.

As mentioned before the Falcons will return to action Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to compete in the singles main draw.
