"I am so excited and extremely thankful for the opportunity to lead this amazing group of young women," said Dalmacio. "They are what makes this job fulfilling and I can't wait to continue to help them become successful, accomplished student-athletes."
In her first season, Dalmacio guided an injury-riddled team to five dual-match victories, including a win over arch-rival Toledo in Mid-American Conference play.
The win total more than doubled the previous year's victory total, despite the fact that injuries left Dalmacio and the Falcons with only five healthy players for the entire dual-match schedule.
The 2017-18 campaign highlighted the growth of the Bowling Green tennis program under Coach Dalmacio, as the Falcons made its first appearance in the MAC Tournament since 2014. The program marked its winningest season since 2013 by a record of 14-9 overall, and finished tied for third in the MAC by a 5-3 mark. The Falcons claimed eight flight titles in the fall invitational season, prior to earning two First Team All-MAC honors in the spring season in juniors Paula Comella and Polina Radeva. It marked the first time since 1997 that Bowling Green recorded two First Team All-MAC team members, and is just the third time in program history it has occurred.
In addition to the individual honors earned in the 2017-18 campaign, the Falcons tallied their first win over Ball State since 2013, first win over Akron since 2014, and first win at Western Michigan since 2014. Highlighting the Falcons schedule was a strong spring season start, going 3-0 against Chicago State, Xavier, and Youngstown State, while the season featured a five-match win streak from March 16-30. Bowling Green also registered an outstanding 8-1 record at home in the Perrysburg Tennis Center.Â
In the 2018-19 season, the Falcons recorded a 10-10 record, going 3-4 in the MAC. The season began with a sweep against Bellarmine University, the first sweep to open the spring schedule for the Falcons since 1996. Over the course of the season, the Orange and Brown captured four total sweeps. Additionally, BGSU topped rival Toledo in a tight 4-3 match that came down to the final point with the Falcons being victorious.Â
Following the 2018-19 season, Paula Comella was named to the First Team All-MAC after having been named MAC Doubles Team of the Week twice and MAC Singles Player of the Week once during the season.Â
The 2019-20 season began with promise for the Falcons, going 6-3 to begin the campaign. However, the coronavirus outbreak cut the season short after nine matches, seeing Bowling Green end the season on a three-match win streak as well as the final match being a 7-0 sweep.
The 2020-21 campaign proved to be another successful season for the Bowling Green Tennis program, playing to a 13-7 overall record with a 9-5 standing within the Mid-American Conference, finishing third in the standings. The success came on the back of an 8-2 record at home for the Orange and Brown, including victories in the final three home matches of the season.
With a younger, and often shorthanded, 2021-22 team, Dalmacio guided several of the younger Falcons to valuable experience. Sophomores Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week on April 6, while Karg was named MAC Singles Player of the Week on March 23. In the fall, freshman Annika Vetter won her first seven singles matches, while junior Ioanna Tsadari claimed the Singles Title at the Pam Whitehead Invitational.
Dalmacio brought a variety of experiences as a player and a coach to Northwest Ohio upon her arrival at BGSU in January of 2015. She spent the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Northern Iowa, helping the Panthers to a 12-12 overall mark.
Dalmacio served as a student assistant coach at Wichita State University, her alma mater, during the 2010-11 academic year, and also has been a tennis professional at various locales, including the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center in Key Biscayne, Fla.; Manursing Island Club in Rye, N.Y.; Buckskill Tennis Club in East Hampton, N.Y.; Point O'Woods Tennis in Bay Shore, N.Y.; and KTC Quail Tennis Club in Dayton, Ohio.
"We are excited to announce Stephanie's promotion to head coach," said BGSU Assistant AD Steve Messenger in July of 2016. "She has a great rapport with the student-athletes, and has really shown her leadership skills during the past few months. It is evident that Stephanie possesses the attributes necessary to positively impact our program and the University."
A four-year letterwinner at Wichita State, Dalmacio helped the Shockers to three Missouri Valley Conference championships, earning all-conference honors in singles in all four seasons (2007-10) and in doubles in three of those four years. She won an MVC title at the number-one singles flight in 2009 after winning a conference championship at the top doubles flight the previous year. In 2010, Dalmacio teamed up with Delia Damaschin to qualify as individuals for the NCAAs, and that duo earned All-America honors.
WSU went 30-1 in MVC regular-season matches during her four years (2007-10) on the team. The Shockers won both the regular-season and tournament titles in 2007, '09 and '10. WSU advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of those three years, defeating South Carolina in the 2007 national tournament. Â The Shockers cracked the national rankings in each of Dalmacio's four years.
During her freshman season, Dalmacio (and her doubles partner, Anna Egorova) was ranked as high as ninth in the nation in doubles. Dalmacio and Damaschin were ranked 55th in the country in doubles at the conclusion of Dalmacio's senior season. Â In the classroom, Dalmacio earned MVC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week honors on multiple occasions.
Dalmacio was ranked among the top 10 players in Brazilian Juniors in 2004 and '05. She is a 2011 graduate of Wichita State, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in sports management with a minor in exercise science. Dalmacio earned her Master's degree in sport psychology from Northern Iowa in May of 2016.
