Falcons Improve Play in Second Day of ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Bowling Green men's golf team has completed the second round of the 54-hole ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, and currently sits in eighth with a total team score of 580, +12. The Falcons collectively scored 289 in the second round by tallying 10 birdies and 60 pars.
"We just couldn't get anything going today," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said. "We would make a birdie, then give it right back. We just didn't have anyone play great, but had four guys play good."
After the first 36-holes of action, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias is tied for seventh overall in the 93-player field. A native of Sevilla, Spain, Heredia Iglesias shot a 72, +1 in the second round, for a two-round total of 139, -3.
Two other Falcons also carded a round two score of 72, +1 in the second day of action at the three-day tournament including seniors Brett Rinker and Jose Narro. Rinker, a native of slippery Rock, Pa. marked the most birdies of the Falcons squad, with two in the second round, leading to a two-day total of 143, +1. Rinker also improved from 23rd place yesterday, up to a tie for 19th after 34 holes of play.
A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro is currently tied for 30th overall, after marking the most pars on the day in the Bowling Green lineup with 12. In the process of carding his score 72, +1, Narro went even on par three scoring, +2 in par four scoring and an impressive -1 on par five scoring, averaging 4.00 strokes on the three par five holes on the Kilmarlic Golf Club course.
Making a dramatic improvement from the first day of play was sophomore Noah Firestone. A native of Annville, Pa., Firestone shaved off ten strokes from his first round score of 83, to card a score of 73, +2 in the second round. In Firestone's first competitive event for the Falcons, he currently sits in a tie for 74th, an improvement from his 89th place ranking after the first round, and holds a two-day score of 156, +14.
Rounding out the Falcons lineup is redshirt sophomore Max Rispler, who carded a score of 82, +11 in the second round of action. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native sits in a tie for 89th at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with a score of 162, +20 heading into the final day of competition.
With one more round to play, Mid-American Conference foe Ball State leads the 18-team field with a team score of 558, -10. Fellow MAC competitor Akron is second overall with a team score of 561, -7. The Falcons narrowly trail seventh-place Delaware, who holds a two-day team score of 577, +9.
The Bowling Green men's golf team will complete the final round of the tournament tomorrow morning, beginning with 9:30 a.m. tee times. Live scoring will be available to follow at: https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/26971/
