Men's Golf Completes ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with an Eighth Place Finish

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – After three days of competition, the Bowling Green men's golf team completed the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with an eighth place team finish by carding a score of 291, 289, 294 – 874, +22. The Falcons collectively tallied 12 birdies and 52 pars in the final round of play.
"It was not the result we wanted, but we had a couple of good individual performances today," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said.
Topping the Bowling Green leaderboard was sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias, who marked a three round score of 211, -2 and tied for sixth overall in the 93-player field. The native of Sevilla, Spain's sixth place finish is both the highest individual placing and lowest score of the fall season for the Falcons thus far. Heredia Iglesias marked an opening round and season low round of 67, ultimately leading to a successful third round that included one eagle and a team-leading 14 pars. Heredia Iglesias also marked a team-best average of 3.89 strokes, -1 on par four scoring on the final 18 holes of competition.
With a tie of 18th place overall, senior Brett Rinker finished in the top-two on the Falcons leaderboard for the second consecutive event by a score of 215, +2. Rinker carded rounds of 71, 72, and 72 at the three-day Intercollegiate, and closed out competition by earning a stroke average of 2.80, -1 on par three scoring, the best of the Bowling Green squad and second-best overall of the tournament. The Slippery Rock, Pa. native's 215, +2 mark is a season low, while Rinker has also improved his score in each of the last four events of the fall season.
Senior Jose Narro rounded out the three-day event by carding a score of 77, leading to a final score of 222, +9. A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro marked a round low of 72 on the second day of the tournament, leading to his third-highest individual finish of the season.
Making a dramatic improvement over the course of the three days was sophomore Noah Firestone. In his first competitive event with the Bowling Green men's golf program, Firestone carded a final score of 229, +16, after cutting down his first round score of 83 by 10 strokes, leading to two consecutive rounds of 73. To close out competition, the native of Annville, Pa. marked the most birdies of the Falcons lineup on the final 18 holes, by sinking four.
Rounding out the Bowling Green lineup was redshirt sophomore Max Rispler. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Rispler earned a round low of 78 in Tuesday's competition to total a score of 240, +27. Rispler also marked a stroke average of 4.25, -3 on par five scoring, the second-best of the tournament field.
Campbell claimed the tournament title for the second consecutive year with a team score of 845, -7, while host school Old Dominion was runner up with a final mark of 846, -6 in the 18-team field.
Up next, the Bowling Green men's golf team will conclude the fall season by participating at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i from Nov. 4 through Nov. 6.
