Men's Golf Returns to Hawai'i for Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's golf team will round out the fall season by competing in the three-day Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i beginning this Friday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 6.
The University of Hawai'i-hosted event is to be held at the Ka'anapali Golf Club with a yardage of 6,700 and a par 71 mark. The 54-hole tournament will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start each day, and the teams will play through one round of 18-holes each day of the tournament.
Including Bowling Green and host-school Hawai'i, there will a 24-team field at the annual event. Ball State, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Clemson, CSUN, Georgia, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Hawai'i-Hilo, Houston, Kansas, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, LSU, Minnesota, North Carolina-Wilmington, North Florida, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, South Carolina, Texas-San Antonio and UC Santa Barbara will also participate in the event.
The Falcons will send out a similar lineup to the last four events of the season, with the addition of Trey Walker, who will be making his first appearance of the fall season. Leading the Falcons lineup will be Jose Narro, followed by Pablo Heredia Iglesias, Brett Rinker, Trey Walker and Max Rispler.
Senior Jose Narro will start at the top of the lineup for the Falcons, after posting a total score of 222, +9 at the Falcons last event two weeks back in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro finished in the top-two on the Bowling Green leaderboard at the first two events of the fall season with scores of 214, +4 and 217, +4. Narro posted a season low round of 69 on the final 18-holes of the Marshall Invitational and has placed as high as 23rd overall over the course of four events this season, in addition to a score of 225, +9 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate.
Most recently in his fourth consecutive event of the season at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias marked both the lowest score and highest finish of the Bowling Green squad in the fall season with a 211, -2 mark and a tie for sixth place overall. Since opening the season with a score of 218, +8 at the Marshall Invitational, the native of Sevilla, Spain has carded a 219, +6 at the Inverness Intercollegiate, followed by a 227, +11 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate. Heredia had marked a low rounds of 69 on two occasions, prior to opening the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with a new season-low round of 67 on the first 18-holes of the tournament.
For the first time in the fall season, senior Brett Rinker finished on top of the Bowling Green leaderboard with a season-best score of 222, +6 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, then followed it up by finishing second-best of the Falcons at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with a score of 215, +2. The Slippery Rock, Pa. native also marked his highest individual placing of the fall season at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate when he tied for 18th overall. Rinker's performances in the last two events have been dramatic improvements from his first two events of the season, in which he marked three-round scores of 232, +22 and 233, +20. Rinker has also posted season-low rounds of 71 on two occasions, including the second round of the Mountaineer Intercollegiate as well as the opening 18-holes of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Trey Walker will be making his first appearance of the season in the Bowling Green lineup at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. Last year, the Bowling Green, Ohio native turned in a stroke average of 78.36 over 22 rounds of play for the Falcons as a true freshman and played in eight events on the year. In addition to carding a low round 72, Walker also placed in a tie for 37th overall at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 153, +9. Walker also finished 41st overall with a 72-hole score of 313, +29, at the 2016 MAC Championships and also competed at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, Cleveland State Invitational, Colleton River Collegiate, the Lone Star Invitational and the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational throughout the year.
Rounding out the Falcons lineup will be redshirt sophomore Max Rispler, who will be competing in his fifth event of the season. The native of Grand Rapids, Mich. had finished in the top-two spots on the Bowling Green leaderboard in the first three events in the fall season, and has placed as high as ninth individually. With a score of 212, -1 at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Rispler is one of two Falcons to have finished under par this season, which was achieved by carding rounds of 69, 71, and 72. Rispler also finished on top for the Falcons at the Marshall Invitational, at which he marked a total score of 212, +2, in addition to a 224, +8 finish at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate. Most recently, Rispler tallied rounds of 80, 82, and 78 at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate for a three-round score of 240, +27.
At last year's Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, the Falcons marked a 16th-place finish with rounds of 292, 300 and 302 and a three-round combined team score of 894, +42. Then-No. 13 nationally ranked Oklahoma pulled away on the final round of play to claim the team title with a tournament score of 837, -15 under par. No. 12 Georgia (849) and No. 35 N.C. State (862) finished in second and third-place on the team leaderboard, respectively. In 2014, the Falcons finished sixth overall with a team score of 869, +17 consisting of rounds of 282, 300, and 287. Over the years, the event has grown from a 13-team field in 2014, to 18 teams in 2015, and a large 24-team tournament this year.
