Final Results
Cincinnati, Ohio – The Falcons started the weekend by breaking three pool records during their dual meet at Xavier. The orange and brown team brought home a victory with a 141-111 final score. Divers did not compete, since the pool was not equipped with diving boards.
The Falcons dominated the first seven events and broke three pool records. The first record came from the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.17. Maya Skorupski broke the 100 backstroke record (1:05.63), while Kristin Filby broke the record in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.63).
The 1000 freestyle event requires a great deal of endurance, which is what Mary Edwards showed tonight for the Falcons. Edawrds stopped the clock at 10:38.05, winning by a margin of over eight seconds. Afterwards, Maria Galic had her first individual win of the season, recording a time of 57.98 in the 100 butterfly.
Later through the evening, spectators watched a memorable back-to-back performance from Natalie Criswell in the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Criswell stopped the clock at 1:56.70 and 5:08.95 respectively, adding two more wins for the team. The last event of the night was the 50 freestyle, in which Victoria Griffin recorded a time of 23.86, earning one more win for the Falcons.
Coach's Input
Head coach, Matthew Ense, commented on the team's performance against the Musketeers: "The team came out with a lot of energy and wanted to set the tone early. We were able to do that and the team broke three pool records. Starting off the season 2-0 is something the team should be proud of".
The Falcons have a busy weekend ahead, as they compete against Marshall University along with Mid-American Conference opponent, the Miami Red Hawks. The action will start tomorrow at 11 A.M. and it will take place at the Red Hawks' home pool, located in Oxford, Ohio.
