Robertson, Walny Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
October 31, 2016 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Cross Country
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer player Tate Robertson and women's cross country runner Rachel Walny.
Male Athlete of the Week
Tate Robertson, a sophomore from Springfield, Ohio, was involved in the scoring of all three of BGSU's goals last week. He had a goal and an assist in the team's important 2-2 tie with Akron, as BG remained in first place in the MAC. He scored the first goal of the game and then his cross into the box resulted in the Falcons' second goal of the night. He also assisted on BGSU's lone goal in a midweek match at Fort Wayne.
Female Athlete of the Week
Rachel Walny, a redshirt sophomore from Clinton Township, Mich., was the MAC runner-up at the league's cross country championships, the best finish for a BGSU woman at the meet in 17 years. She rank 6,000 meters in 20:48.0, less than 14 seconds shy of the MAC champion. She is the only Falcon to earn back-to-back first team All-MAC awards since 2005 and was 18 seconds faster than at the MAC Championships a year ago as a redshirt freshman.
