Men's Golf Rounds Out Fall Season By Completing Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic

LAHAINA, MAUI, HAWAI'I – The Bowling Green men's golf program concluded the fall season by carding a team score of 887, +35 at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. After marking rounds of 304 and 294 in the first two days of action, the Falcons successfully lowered its team score for the third consecutive day with a mark of 289 on the final 18-holes.
"The seniors played well this week in our last event of the fall season but we still have a lot of work to do looking forward to competition in the spring," Bowling Green men's golf coach Kevin Farrell said.
Collectively the Falcons tallied two eagles, 37 birdies and 149 pars through the three-day tournament. It was senior Jose Narro and sophomore Trey Walker who each marked an eagle for the Bowling Green squad in the team's third consecutive appearance at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro made a dramatic improvement on the third day of play, jumping on the leaderboard from a tie for 51st yesterday, for a final placing in a tie for 30th today. Narro's final score of 213, E was achieved by carding a new season low round of 68 in the final day of action, while improving on his score in each of the days of play. Narro also marked a team-leading 36 pars throughout the tournament.
Also shaving off strokes throughout the tournament was senior Brett Rinker. A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rinker tied with Narro for 30th place by carding a final round score of 69 leading to a three-day total of 213, E. The final round mark of 69 is also a new season low round Rinker, bettering his former season low of 71 by two strokes. Rinker also led the Falcons with 10 birdies throughout the three-day competition and earned a -4, 4.56 stroke average on par-5 scoring.
In his first event of the year, Walker tallied a total score of 231, +18 by carding rounds of 77, 76, and 78. Over the course of the event, the Bowling Green, Ohio native marked one eagle, seven birdies and 25 pars.
Sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias improved on each round of play this week by carding a final round of 76, leading to a 54-hole total score of 232, +19. A native of Sevilla, Spain, Heredia Iglesias was able to accomplish the score by marking five birdies and 28 pars.
The final Falcon competing in the Bowling Green lineup was redshirt sophomore Max Rispler. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native was able to lower his score by four strokes on the final day of play to mark a round of 76 to close out the tournament. Rispler finished with a total score of 236, +23, and tallied seven birdies as well as 26 pars.
Clemson was able to claim the team title with a total team score of 826, -26, while Georgia trailed in second place with score of 827, -25. LSU took third in the 24-team field by a mark of 828, -24.
The Bowling Green men's golf program will pick back up with action at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. The University of Houston-hosted event that will begin the spring season starts on Friday, March 10, 2017.
