Houston-Hosted Border Olympics Kicks Off Men's Golf Spring Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's golf team will be back in action this weekend to commence the spring season at the 2017 Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston. The two-day tournament will take place at the Par 72, 7,125 yard Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas from Friday, March 10 through Saturday, March 11.
Friday's competition will consist of 36 holes of play, while Saturday will feature the final third round. The 19-team field will feature host-school Houston, Bowling Green, Campbell, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, ULM, UTEP, and UTSA.
The Falcons will send out a lineup led by senior Jose Narro, followed by senior Brett Rinker, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias, redshirt sophomore Max Rispler, rounded out by sophomore Trey Walker.
A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro most recently shot a season low round of 68 in the third round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. Averaging a score of 72.73, Narro has started at the top of the lineup for all five events thus far in the 2016-17 campaign for the Falcons, and finished on top of the Bowling Green leaderboard with his score of 213, E in Hawaii.
Senior Brett Rinker finished on top of the Bowling Green leaderboard in October's Mountaineer Intercollegiate with a total score of 222, +6, and went on to finish the fall season with his best 54-hole score at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic of 213, E. Rinker, a native of Slippery Rock, Pa., averaged a score of 74.33 over the course of his 15 rounds in the fall season.
Leading the Falcons with a best finish of sixth at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate was sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias, filling the third spot in the Bowling Green lineup. Competing in all five events of the fall season with a 73.80 average, Iglesias excelled in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with a season low for the Falcons by carding a 67 in the first round, eventually leading to a team-best score of 211 in 54-hole competition.
Appearing in his fifth event of the season is redshirt sophomore Max Rispler. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native has average a score of 74.93 through the fall season, and has finished on the top of the Bowling Green leaderboard in two events, including the Marshall Invitational with a score of 212, +1 and the Inverness Intercollegiate with a score of 212, -1.
Rounding out the Bowling Green lineup will be sophomore Trey Walker. A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Walker debuted his sophomore season at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic where he carded a 54-hole score of 231, +18, finishing third on the Falcons leaderboard. Walker had marked a low round of 76 in the second round of competition.
