Senior center earns weekly conference academic honor
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Abby Siefker has been named Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday (Dec. 7). Siefker, a senior, earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career.
Siefker, a native of Ottoville, Ohio (Ottoville H.S.), led the team in multiple categories last week. The center paced the Falcons in scoring and rebounding, and tied for the team assists lead, as BG split a pair of games.
On the week, Siefker averaged 10.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, shooting 53.3% from the field. Siefker had her third double-double in a five-game span last Wednesday (Nov. 30), with a career-high 17 points and 13 rebounds in the Falcons' win over Davis & Elkins. She had eight offensive rebounds in the win, singlehandedly topping the opponents in that category.
Heading into tonight's game, Siefker is averaging 8.6 points and 8.0 rebounds on the year. She leads the team in rebounds and is tied for second in scoring. She also leads BG in field-goal percentage, at .532. Siefker has already topped her point total for all of last season.
In the classroom, Siefker maintains a perfect 4.000 cumulative grade-point average as a biology pre-dentistry major. She has a triple minor -- chemistry, general sciences and entrepreneurship.
Head coach Jennifer Roos and the Falcons conclude a three-game home swing tonight (Wednesday, Dec. 7), taking on Ohio Valley University in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Stroh Center. Then, BGSU hits the road for games on back-to-back Sundays, facing Virginia Tech this weekend (Dec. 11) and South Dakota State next weekend (Dec. 18). Virginia Tech is ranked 25th in the nation, while SDSU is receiving votes in the national polls.
