Falcons Return to the Road for Two Matches

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team hits the road this weekend to take on Cleveland State Friday in Cleveland, Ohio. The team will then travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to face the Jaguars Sunday morning.
The Falcons took on two teams last weekend, losing close matches to Illinois-Chicago Saturday and Wright State Sunday.
The Orange and Brown lost to the Flames to begin the weekend 4-3. The Falcons earned the doubles point for the first time this season with senior Drew Fillis and freshman Paula Comella Aguilo along with sophomore Emily Witt and freshman Polina Radeva earning wins. BG's Aguilo and Fillis took care of business on the court to pick up singles wins.
Against the Raiders, Fillis and Aguilo captured their second win of the weekend at No. 1 doubles defeating Taylor Culbertson and Tori Turner, 6-0. The two points earned by the Falcons were achieved in singles play by Radeva and Aguilo.
Cleveland State began the season with three losses to Toledo, Duquesne and West Virginia. The Vikings have won their last two matches against Northern Illinois and Butler. BGSU leads CSU, 9-1, in the all-time series between the teams. Cleveland State went 9-14 overall last year and 2-3 in the Horizon League. The Vikings defeated Oakland, 4-3 in the first round of the Horizon League Championships, then lost to Detroit, 4-3 in the semifinals.
IUPUI is 0-7 overall on the season. The Cougars have lost to two nationally ranked teams in No. 58 Illinois and No. 44 Purdue. A year ago, IUPUI was 7-13 overall and 3-4 in the Summitt League. BGSU has a 3-0 record all-time against the Cougars. The teams last met during the 2010-11 season when the Falcons captured a 7-0 victory.
The Cougars competed at the BGSU Invitational in September. Comella left Bobbi Modesto in the dust in the number-two singles flight winning the match 6-0, 6-0. At number-three singles Witt defeated Samantha Mayer 6-3, 6-1.
Following this weekend's matches, the Falcons return home to face Chicago State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. BG will then travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take on Michigan State.
