Allendale, Mich. and Findlay, Ohio – Sophomore Kyla Paster and redshirt junior Mackenzie McMillin each earned Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying marks as the Bowling Green State University track and field team competed in meets at Grand Valley State University and Findlay Friday.
At Grand Valley State, Bowling Green's sprinters, jumpers and distance runners all competed. Paster set a new personal best in the long jump and won the open competition with a MAC automatic qualifying mark of 18-feet-10.75. Teammate Tiera Parker competed in the invitational competition and placed second overall with the exact same distance.
McMillin led the way for the distance team in the 5,000. She was the top Falcon finisher of four to compete in the race, running 17:13.37 to place sixth. That time is a new personal best by 25 seconds and earns automatic qualifying for the MAC Championship. Rebecca Schott followed with a time of 17:28.57 to place 19th and trim 43 seconds off of her collegiate PR.
In other events, the Falcons improved seeding for the MAC Championships and set personal marks. Taylor Rambo's 400 time of 56.81 seconds was a season-best, while freshman Natalee Cole set a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:22.29. Andrea Alt also set a personal best in the 3,000 with a time of 10:03.20.
Dorresha Green qualified for the finals in the 60 after racing to a time of 7.70 seconds in the prelims, just shy of her personal best time of 7.69. She ran 7.73 seconds in the finals. Raven Porter earned a top 10 finish with a leap of 5-5.75 in the high jump to end eighth.
The team's throwers competed at the Findlay Elite Throws meet. Aliyah Gustafson was the squad's top finisher in the shot put with a toss of 49-4.5, while Kayla Velasquez had the team's top performance in the weight throw at 57-8.25.
In total, the Falcons have now earned 14 MAC automatic qualifying marks this year, beating the program record of 11 set a year ago.
"We continued to take positive steps towards the MAC Championships today," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "Now, we have two weeks to finish off our preparations to ensure we have our best team performance of the season."
Bowling Green will close out the regular season next Saturday at the Kent State Tune-Up before the MAC Championships, hosted by Akron, Feb. 26-27.
