Official Release
Cleveland, Ohio -- Both all-around competitors for the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team were named All-Conference Wednesday afternoon, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced today. Senior Alyssa Nocella was named to the four-person first-team and junior Lauren Feely to the nine-person second-team.
Â
Nocella, a Gilbertsville, Pa. native, joins Marny Oestreng as the only two Falcons to be named All-MAC first-team for three straight seasons. This season, Nocella has won MAC Gymnast of the Week twice and Female Scholar Athlete of the Week once.
Â
A three-time NCAA regional qualifier in the all-around, Nocella set a new personal best this season with a score 39.425, a mark that ranks third best in program history. She has achieved eight all-around scores over 39 points this season and is currently ranked first in the conference by regional qualifying score (RQS). Nocella has scored 9.900 five times this season, three times on floor and twice on bars.Â
Â
Feely, who hails from Gurnee, Ill., is now a two-time second-team award winner, as she was a member previously after her freshman campaign in 2013-14. This season, the junior was tabbed Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Jan. 27 and Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 2. Feely, the 2014 MAC Freshman of the Year and 2015 co-vault MAC Champion, has set career-bests this season on four of the five possible events. Her personal bests came on uneven bars (9.850 vs. Denver), balance beam (9.825 vs. NIU), floor exercise (9.900 vs. NIU) and all-around (39.375 vs. NIU).
Â
Most recently on Senior Night, the duo was a part of a school record-breaking team beam score of 49.200, as well as a school-record overall score of 196.500 in BGSU's meet against Northern Illinois.
Â
Bowling Green will compete at the MAC Championships this Saturday, March 19, hosted by Ball State University in Worthen Arena. The Falcons enter the meet as one of 10 schools fighting for the last six spots at NCAA Regionals. Check out Championship Central for more information on the meet.
