March 20, 2016 | Gymnastics
Bowling Green, Ohio – For the first time in 25 years, the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team has qualified a team to the NCAA Regional meet on April 2. Following yesterday's Mid-American Conference Championship meet where the Falcons place third with a 195.625 – the team's highest ever score at a conference championship – BGSU ended up with a regional qualifying score of 195.455, good for No. 34 overall.
The 2016 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship teams, as well as all-around and individual event competitors, will be assigned to the regional locations tomorrow at 4 pm during the NCAA Selection Show. The program will be aired on NCAA.com.
"This is a huge moment for the BGSU Gymnastics program and the work the athletes have put in to training and competitions all season long," said head coach Kerrie Turner. "I can't wait to find out where our team will be competing for the NCAA Regional Championships. We look forward to preparing for this opportunity."
BGSU will host a watch party that is opened to the public. The event is set to take place inside of the Sebo Athletic Center in the Wilcox Board Room. There will be signage to the correct area of the facility upon arrival. Doors will open at 3:30 pm with the show beginning at 4 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
With a field of 36 teams, there are six possible regional locations the Falcons could compete at.
Tuscaloosa Regional – Tuscaloosa, Alabama | University of Alabama
Athens Regional – Athens, Georgia | University of Georgia
Iowa City Regional – Iowa City, Iowa | University of Iowa
Ann Arbor Regional – Ann Arbor, Michigan | University of Michigan
Minneapolis Regional - Minneapolis | University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Salt Lake City Regional – Salt Lake City | University of Utah
The Orange and Brown are one of four MAC schools to make the regional meet, joining No. 24 Eastern Michigan, No. 30 Kent State and No. 35 Central Michigan.
