BGSU assistant part of inaugural list of coaches selected
Bowling Green State University women's basketball assistant coach Sahar Nusseibeh has been recognized as one of the top young coaches in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Nusseibeh was named to the WBCA's inaugural list of Thirty Under 30 honorees.
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 special recognition program was created to honor 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game.
Each recipient has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner and attitude and professional association involvement.
"I consider it to be a great honor any time your fellow colleagues recognize your efforts as a coach," said Nusseibeh. "I feel very blessed to know so many incredible people in this profession -- people who constantly motivate & inspire me to continue to work to the best of my abilities. What we get to do every day as coaches is a tremendous privilege that I am so grateful to have."
Nusseibeh recently completed her third season as an assistant coach on the women's basketball staff at Bowling Green State University. A native of Uniontown, Ohio, she has gained additional experience through a plethora of professional development-related events. She graduated from the NCAA Women Coaches Academy, run by The Alliance, which was held in Denver, Colo., in May of 2014. Additionally, she attended the "A Step Up" Assistant Coaching Symposium, run by Felicia Hall Allen & Associates in Charlotte during May of 2015.
In the fall of 2015, Nusseibeh attended both the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) National Convention in Tampa, Fla., and the WBCA's Center for Coaching Excellence inaugural session for assistant coaches in Atlanta, Ga.
Nusseibeh came to BGSU after spending two seasons on the staff at College of the Holy Cross. Prior to joining the Crusaders, she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Cincinnati. Additionally, Nusseibeh served internships with both the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics of the WNBA, and also spent time in Colorado working with USA Basketball, helping prepare the U-19 and World University Games teams that competed in Thailand and Serbia, respectively.
Nusseibeh participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "So You Want to Be a Coach" program, a program in which BGSU senior Miriam Justinger will take part next weekend.
Â
Nusseibeh played four seasons at American University from 2005-09, and graduated cum laude from AU in 2009, earning her bachelor's degree in International Relations/International Business. She received her master's degree in Business Administration from Cincinnati in May of 2011.
"The WBCA has created a new program to recognize up and coming talent in our coaching family. The 30 coaches who have been named Thirty Under 30 are deserving of this recognition, and the WBCA congratulates them for distinguishing themselves early in their careers," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "These coaches have demonstrated eagerness, effectiveness, loyalty, love of the game, and a commitment to the student-athlete. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes."
