Bowling Green, Ohio -- Prior to the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team departing for NCAA Regionals this weekend, the team will be holding a send off event on Wednesday, March 30th at 6 p.m. The send off will be in the Nest at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The team and coaching staff will be present and speak at the event, which is free and open to the public.
"I am so excited for this event," said head coach Kerrie Turner. "We have received so much support from the athletic department and the university. I hope to see many people at the union to cheer on BGSU Gymnastics as we strive to do our best at NCAA Regionals."
This season, the Falcons went 6-12 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-American Conference. The Orange and Brown hit a hot streak at the end of the season, winning the team's last two regular season meets, as well as placing third at MAC Championships with a 195.625, the team's highest ever score at a conference championship. BGSU ended up with a regional qualifying score of 195.455, good for No. 34 overall (top 36 teams make it to NCAA Regionals). The team found out it was assigned to the Tuscaloosa Regional at the Selection Show watch party on March 21.Â
The Falcons compete in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on April 2 in the team's first trip to regionals since 1991. The other teams competing in this regional location are Alabama, California, Boise State, Kentucky and West Virginia.
