Redshirt sophomore earns two conference honors on Wednesday morning
The awards just keep rolling in for Bowling Green State University softball standout Chelsea Raker, as she has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The weekly award winners were announced by the league office on Wednesday morning (March 9).
Raker earns this honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Earlier Wednesday morning, Raker was named the MAC's Player of the Week for the East Division, earning that honor for the first time in her collegiate career as well.

Raker, a native of Westerville, Ohio (Westerville South H.S.), hit an incredible .750, with nine hits in 12 at-bats, as the Falcons went a perfect 3-0 at the Tiger Clash in Towson, Md., last weekend. She had four extra-base hits, an on-base percentage of .769 and a slugging pct. of 1.333 on the weekend.
On Saturday (March 5), Raker reached base in all five plate appearances in an 11-2 win over Morgan State. She was a perfect 4-for-4 with a walk. Raker just missed hitting for the cycle in that game, falling a single shy. She had two doubles, a triple and a homer in that win, for a slugging pct. of 2.750 on the day, scoring a run and driving in two.
Sunday afternoon (March 6), Raker was a combined 5-for-8 in BG's two wins, going 3-for-4 against a strong Towson team before going 2-for-4 vs. MSU. Raker singled in her first at-bat vs. TU, then hit a fly ball to right field that was caught. Believe it or not, that fly-ball out ended a streak of 11-straight plate appearances in which she had reached base, dating to Feb. 26. After seeing that streak broken, Raker then proceeded to get four hits in her next five at-bats.
Raker is 11-for-14 over her last four games, and has raised her season batting average from .222 to a team-leading .415 in that time.
On the season, Raker has an on-base pct. of .538 to lead the team, and she also paces the Falcons in walks, with nine. Raker is second on the team in extra-base hits (seven), doubles (four), homers (two), RBI (12), total bases (29) and slugging pct. (.707). An All-MAC Second-Team selection in 2014, Raker has started 14 of the Falcons' 16 games this season after missing all of the 2015 campaign due to injury.
In the classroom, Raker has a 3.479 cumulative grade-point average as a public health major.
Raker and the Falcons travel south this weekend, heading to the Tampa/Clearwater area of Florida for five games in the USF Under Armour Showcase. BGSU's opponents will include North Dakota, East Carolina, Hartford, Fairfield and South Dakota.
