Perrysburg, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team fell to Akron Friday afternoon, 7-0 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
The Zips took an early lead by claiming the doubles point on courts two and three.
The Falcons top duo of senior Drew Fillis and freshman Paula Comella's match was halted when Akron captured the doubles point. The Zips' Ariadna Blinvo and Shannon Newnes were leading Fillis and Comella, 3-2.
In singles, after forcing the third set, BGSU's Comella fell 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) to Blinova of Akron at the No. 1 spot. Falcon freshman Polina Radeva dropped the first-set, 6-2 to the Zips Sophia Geier. The lead teetered back in forth on court two eventually ending in a tie-breaking loss for Radeva, 7-6(4).
The Falcons will end the regular season Sunday versus Buffalo. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BG Campus. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be held indoors at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
