Falcons Finish Regular Season At Home Against Zips, Bulls

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team will end the regular season this weekend against Akron Friday and Buffalo Sunday. Friday's match will be held indoors at the Perrysburg Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Sunday's match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BG Campus. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be held indoors at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Last time out the Falcons fell, 6-1, to both Miami and Ball State. Against Miami, freshman Paula Comella earned the only point for BG with her win against Hannah Shteyn at the No. 1 position. Comella won her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Senior Drew Fillis and Comella picked up a win downing the RedHawks' Badileanu and Shapovalova, 6-3 at the No. 1 slot. Versus Ball State, Comella captured her 22nd singles win, earning a spot on the season singles records list for singles wins and combined wins. Comella defeated the Cardinals' Peyton Gollhofer, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
Akron enters the weekend with an overall record of 14-9, and the Zips are 4-3 in conference play. The Zips have defeated Eastern Michigan (5-2), Toledo (5-2), Northern Illinois (7-0) and Buffalo (4-3). Head coach Brandon Padgett returns four to his roster in senior Martina Zerbola, junior Karalina Maksimava and sophomores Sophia Geier and Ariandna Blinova. The Orange and Brown lead Akron, 28-8, in the all-time series between the teams. A year ago, the Zips went 11-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Buffalo is 12-7 on the year and 4-3 in conference play. Buffalo has captured wins against Toledo (6-1), Eastern Michigan (5-2), Northern Illinois (5-2) and the leaders of the MAC, Ball State (4-3). Buffalo's five returners are senior Dayana Agasieva, juniors Laura Holterbosch and Margarita Kotok and sophomores Christine Haraldson and Tanja Stojanovska. The Bulls were predicted to finish third in the league, according to the preseason poll. The Falcons lead Buffalo, 14-5, in the all-time series between the teams.
