Comella Earns MAC Freshman of the Year, First-Team All-MAC

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University tennis freshman Paula Comella was named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and also earned first-team All-MAC, as announced by the MAC Wednesday afternoon. Comella is the second player in school history to win the award, and the first since Deidee Bissinger in 1996-97.
"I am so excited and happy for Paula," said head coach Olga Elkin. "She has worked so hard this year, and I am thrilled for her that she won this award. She is so talented, and I am excited to see what the future holds for her."
Comella a native of Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, ended her freshman campaign with a 23-9 overall record and a 6-2 record at the No.1 spot in conference play. Comella also earned two spots on the single-season records list with twenty-three singles wins (20th in school history) and forty-three combined wins (22nd in program history).
Comella, alongside senior Drew Fillis saw much success at the No. 1 doubles spot with an 11-3 overall record, and 4-1 in the MAC.
