In mid-June, the program will offer a Pitcher/Catcher Camp (Tuesday, June 14), open to girls in grades eight through 12. The first half of the Pitcher/Catcher Camp will focus on separate skill instruction for pitchers and catchers, and the second half of the camp will be geared toward the dynamic of the pitcher/catcher relationship. Campers will learn how to communicate and work with one another in both practice and game settings.
On Tuesday, July 12, the Falcon program will offer a Team Camp for 12U and 14U teams. This camp will provide a setting where the region's best club teams can compete against high-level competition, while also improving individual and team skills through instruction from current BGSU softball student/athletes. The camp will consist of morning pool-play games followed by a single elimination championship bracket, and each team will play a minimum of three games. Additionally, campers will be able to interact with BGSU softball players in a variety of settings, including chalk talks, position-specific skill instruction and game strategy. The next two days will see the same opportunities available to older players, as the Falcons will hold a 16U Team Camp (Wednesday, July 13) and an 18U Team Camp (Thursday, July 14).
NOTE: There are a limited number of spots available for the 12U/14U, 16U and 18U Team Camps.
On Tuesday, July 19, the Falcons will offer a Youth Camp for aspiring players from grades three through seven. The instruction during this camp will be geared for younger players looking to develop and enhance the fundamentals of the game of softball. BGSU's full-time coaches will lead each group based upon their expertise as college-level coaches. Athletes will receive a watchful eye as the BGSU coaches and players lead them through advanced-level techniques.
The next day (Wednesday, July 20), the Prospect Camp will cover the essential fundamentals of defense and offense. Campers will perform drills and learn techniques that will enhance their skills and maximize performance. Clinicians will also give feedback and provide athletes with an evaluation of technique. The first half of the session will be geared toward offense, and the second half will be focused on defense. This session will not include pitching or catching defense.
Last but not least, Willis and her program will offer a Labor Day Camp on Monday, Sept. 5. The morning session will cover Elite Pitching and Catching, and BG coaches will give skill instruction along with an evaluation of technique. Pitchers will receive individualized attention and be able to work on essential fundaments to enhance skill and maximize performance, while catchers will work on in-game skills and game strategies that will enhance their game management skills.
The afternoon session of the Labor Day Camp will cover the essential fundamentals of offense and defense. Campers will perform drills and learn hitting techniques that will enhance hitting performance. They will then be able to focus on the basic fundamentals of defense. This will be geared toward maximizing a player's skills at her primary position.
