Lauren Feely Named Academic All-District
May 12, 2016 | Gymnastics
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University gymnast Lauren Feely was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team today. Feely, a junior, carries a 4.0 grade point average in early childhood education.
Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 5 representing all Division I schools in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. The at-large teams include student-athletes from the sports of beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swim/dive, tennis, and water polo. All of the all-district representatives advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected.
Feely won the MAC all-around title at the league championship meet and was named Academic All-MAC earlier this year, leading the Falcons to their first NCAA Regional team appearance in 25 years. She tied for first in the MAC rankings in the all-around, tied for third on vault and tied for eighth on floor. She was a second-team All-MAC finisher and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She placed sixth in the all-around at the NCAA Regional Championship and was part of a team that set new school records on the beam as well as posting the highest single-meet score in program history with a 196.500.
"Lauren is truly deserving of this recognition," BGSU Gymnastics Coach Kerrie Turner said. "She has balanced her time as a student-athlete and created incredible success in both areas. Her commitment to academics is at the forefront and she is an excellent example for those around her. Her work ethic and dedication are clear contributors to her success and it is fantastic to see this effort recognized and honored."
Among the 11 student-athletes earning all-district recognition in district five, Feely was one of three gymnasts (joining Michigan's Nicole Artz and Western Michigan's Kayla Weber). Six of the 11 members had a 4.0 grade point average. Feely is the fifth BGSU student-athlete to be honored this year, joining men's soccer's Pat Flynn and Joe Sullivan, along with football's Joe Davidson and Alfonso Mack.
