Bowling Green, Ohio – Highlighted by a total of 11 home matches, Bowling Green State University women's soccer head coach Lindsay Basalyga is excited to announce the challenging 2016 fall schedule for her Falcons' squad, which will kick-off with the home opener on Aug. 19 versus Eastern Illinois at Cochrane Stadium.
"I'm excited about the schedule we have lined up for 2016. I think our non-conference portion will prepare us well to reach the goals the team has laid out for themselves heading into MAC play," commented Coach Basalyga. "We are looking forward to getting out of the region and playing on the east coast versus both Towson and Navy in Navy's four-team tournament in September."
Following an exhibition contest at Robert Morris on Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. ET, the Falcons will open up the regular season slate with five straight home matches versus Eastern Illinois (Aug. 19), Valparaiso (Aug. 21), Morehead State (Aug. 25), Oakland (Aug. 28) and Detroit (Sept. 1).
BGSU will then hit the road for the first time on the year when the Falcons will travel to Annapolis, Maryland for not one, but two matches on the east coast. The Falcons will face off with the Towson Tigers at the Naval Academy on Sept. 9, before returning to the pitch to take on the home standing Navy Midshipmen on Sept. 11.
After a return contest with IPFW in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Sept. 16, the Orange and Brown will open up MAC play at home with back-to-back matches versus Ohio (Sept. 23) and Kent State (Sept. 25).
The next six matches will be a tough stretch for the Falcons, as Coach Basalyga's team will play five conference road contests, including three straight bouts away from Cochrane Stadium in mid-October.
Bowling Green will end the month of September on the road at Buffalo on Sept. 30, before traveling to Akron for a MAC East showdown on Oct. 10.
A home match versus Eastern Michigan on Oct. 6 precedes a three-match road trip with games at Central Michigan (Oct. 9), at Ball State (Oct. 14) and at Miami (Oct. 16).
With the road schedule compete, the Falcons will conclude the regular season slate with a trio of MAC matches versus Western Michigan (Oct. 20), against Northern Illinois (Oct. 23) and versus Toledo (Oct. 27) in the Battle of I-75 on Senior Day in the regular season finale.
The 2016 MAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament will be held on Oct. 30 and Nov. 4-6. The first round of games will take at campus sites on Sunday, Oct. 30. The semifinals will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 with the championship match scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at the campus site of the No. 1 seed.
