August 30, 2016 | Women's Cross Country
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference has released the preseason coaches' poll for the 2016 women's cross country season, and Bowling Green was picked to finish second in the league.
The Falcons finished second to Eastern Michigan at the 2015 MAC Championships with 72 points. The Falcons return two of the five scoring runners from that event, including Rachel Walny, who placed fifth overall. This year's team features just one senior and five juniors.
BGSU received one of ten first-place votes, with prospective MAC favorite Eastern Michigan garnering the other nine. The Falcons also received a MAC championship vote. EMU (8) and Northern Illinois (1) were granted the others.
Toledo, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan follow EMU and BGSU in the top half of the women's poll. The bottom half is represented by Buffalo, Miami, Ohio, Akron, Kent State and Ball State.
The 2016 season begins on Friday, Sept. 2 when both BGSU cross country teams travel to Oregon, Ohio for the Toledo Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm. The Falcons then host the Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 pm.
