Point in Time: Falcons Fly Past Missouri in 2002

The BGSU Athletics Department is celebrating 50 years of Doyt L. Perry Stadium this season, culminating on Oct. 1, 2016 at Homecoming. The Falcons will host Eastern Michigan on the 50th anniversary of the first football game in Perry Stadium history, a 13-0 Falcons win over Dayton on Oct. 1, 1966.

In leading up to Homecoming, BGSU Athletics is taking a look back at a few of the great Bowling Green games in Doyt Perry Stadium history. Today, we look back at the Falcons' 51-28 win over Missouri on Sept. 14, 2002.

Celebrating 50 Years Of The Doyt
Bowling Green's first win over a Power Five team at Doyt Perry Stadium occurred on Sept. 14, 2002, when the Falcons downed the Big XII's Missouri Tigers for the second consecutive season. The Falcons led for all but 5:55 of the game en route to a 51-28 victory.

Josh Harris accounted for 411 of the team's 577 yards of total offense and scored three of BGSU's six touchdowns. He completed 16 passes for 311 yards, rushed 22 times for 66 yards and two scores, and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Cole Magner. Magner threw two passes; his other was a 30-yard scoring throw.

Robert Redd caught ten passes for 209 yards, including Magner's 30-yard touchdown pass. Redd owned the school record for receiving yards in a game at the time with 215 in a 2001 game against Marshall. James Hawkins added five catches for 112 yards, and Joe Alls led the ground attack with 119 yards and a touchdown.

BGSU opened the scoring just 1:38 into the game with Harris' touchdown reception. Seven minutes later, the Falcons answered a Missouri score with a Shaun Suisham 34-yard field goal and led for the remainder of the game. Bowling Green led 34-14 at halftime and by as much as 51-21.

The victory was the second of eight straight to start the Falcons' 2002 season. Head coach Urban Meyer led BGSU to nine wins that season, their most since 1992, as well as a 6-0 record at home.
