Men's Golf Rounds Out Marshall Invitational With Fifth Place Finish

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Bowling Green men's golf team finished fifth overall after 54-holes of competition at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational Tuesday afternoon, hosted at the Berry Hill Country Club. The Falcons earned scores of 287, 287, and 282 for a final of 856, +16 over the course of the three rounds.
"I'm very happy with how hard the team battled today," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said. "We were very solid, so it was a great start to the fall season."
In the third round of action, redshirt sophomore Max Rispler shot a 73 for a two-day total of 212, +2. With the score, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native finished tied for 15th place overall and on top of the Falcons team standings.
With a low round of 69, senior Jose Narro trailed just behind Rispler, ultimately finishing in a tie for 23rd by carding a total score of 214, +4.
Two other Falcons were closely behind, as freshman Nick Hofland shot a 71 on the day for an overall final of 217, +7 in his collegiate debut, while sophomore Pablo Heredia Inglesias hit a low round of 69 for a two-day total of 218, +8.
The final team competitor for the Falcons was senior Brett Rinker, who carded a 78 in the third round of action for a total score of 232, +22 at the Marshall Invitational, while in individual competition, junior Cameron Michalak carded a third round of 71, his lowest of the Invitational, for a three-round total score of 222, +12. The score placed Michalak in a tie for 48th overall.
Eastern Kentucky took home the title with a team score of 833, -7, while Bowling Green narrowly trailed host school Marshall, who finished fourth with a mark of 854, +14.
The Bowling Green men's golf team will now have a quick turnaround, as the Falcons are set to compete in the Inverness Invitational, hosted by Toledo, beginning next Monday, Sept. 19.
