Falcons Conclude Play At The Greater Cincinnati Invitational

Mason, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team concluded play at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational Saturday at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Facility. Due to inclement weather the Falcons were only able complete the first round of doubles play and finish a handful of singles matches.
BGSU freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, who had a successful day one at the invite, was defeated in the flight two semifinal by Vanina Iordanova of Xavier 6-3, 6-2.
In flight four, freshman Anna Kholodnaya claimed a spot in the championship for the Orange and Brown as she won her match in straight-sets against UIC's Bianca Zuzu, 6-3, 6-2. Kholodnaya put in a valiant effort on the court against Lucia Seigford of St. Francis, but ultimately fell, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 in the final. Freshman Ayumi Sasaki was defeated by Seigford of St. Francis in the semifinal, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.
"We battled on every court in singles and doubles," Head Coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Anna lost by two points in one of the singles finals and fought hard until the last point. It was a great start to the year."
Junior Emily Witt and Tavpash teamed up for the first time and captured their first victory in flight one for the Falcons against Belmont's Kendall Warren and Lindsey Whitehead, 7-5.
In flight two, BG sophomore Polina Radeva and Kholdnaya defeated Sara Mitrovic and Maddy Adams of Duquesne, 6-3.
The Falcons return to action Sept. 30 at the Wright State Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
