Comella and Tavpash Win Flight Titles At Raider Invitational

Dayton, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team finished the Raider Invitational by bringing home two top flight titles. Sophomore Paula Comella won the singles top flight title and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash captured the flight two title.
"All the hard work we put in up to this point definitely showed this weekend," Head Coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Results like this are to prove we are on the right track and setting the tone for the main season. To say that I'm proud is an understatement."
In the first flight, Comella defeated Jui-Yun Chang of Murray State in the semifinals, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. She then faced her teammate, freshman Anna Kholodnaya in the flight championship match. Comella tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win against Kholodnaya to capture the title.
Tavpash defeated Elaine Cloern of Wright State, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of play. She faced IUPUI's Rachel Swartwood in the flight final. Tavpash crushed Swartwood with a 6-3, 6-0 final decision to earn the championship title.
The Falcons had sophomore Polina Radeva and freshmen Ayumi Sasaki and Anna Kholodnaya take third place.
The Orange and Brown will be back in action at the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette, Indiana Oct. 7.
