Fourteen Falcons Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

A total of 14Â Bowling Green State University softball student-athletes have earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for their academic excellence during the 2016-17Â academic year.

BGSU's lengthy list of individual honorees includes Taylor Blevins, Briana Combs, Logan Everett, Alivia Forshey, Kayla Gregory, Katee Hinkle, Sami Parave, Brooke Parker, Cassandra Plageman, Haley Schrock, Aspen Searle, Laine Simmons, Alex Sorgi and Kiley Sosby.
To qualify for NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition, a student-athlete must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the previous academic year.
The Falcons' total of 14 honorees ranked second among Mid-American Conference programs and tied BGSU for eighth in the entire nation among NCAA Division-I programs.
The total of 14 student-athletes honored represents two-thirds of BGSU's entire 2016-17 roster.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. NCAA Division I, with 1,843Â honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher, while 1,825Â in Division III and 1,268 in Division II earned recognition. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 751 and 609 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 559 recipients and Junior College totaled 496.

The Falcons wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule last weekend. BGSUÂ had a record of 6-2 during the fall slate, and the Brown and Orange outscored opponents, 62-14, in the eight games.
