Wright, Washington Named Jet's Pizza Athletes Of The Week
October 23, 2017 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Cameron Wright and women's soccer player Chelsee Washington.
Male Athlete of the Week
Cameron Wright, a freshman from Newmarket, Ontario, continues to lead the Bowling Green offense, after he tallied three points with one goal and two assists against Minnesota State this past weekend. The native of Newmarket, Ontario scored the lone goal for the Falcons on Friday night to tie the game at 1-1 against the Mavericks, while on Saturday, Wright posted his first career multi-point game by two assists in Bowling Green's 5-2 win. Wright's second assist on Saturday came when he helped fellow freshman Max Johnson tally his first career goal and extend the Falcons lead to 4-0 over Minnesota State. In addition to the three points, Wright also tallied four shots on goal, including a team-high of three on Friday evening, and finished the weekend with a plus-2 rating on the ice.
Female Athlete of the Week
Chelsee Washington, a sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, played an enormous role in Bowling Green's 3-1 win against MAC Eastern Division champion Kent State Sunday. In the 37th minute, Washington headed in a diagonal pass from Alexis Fricke to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. It was the first goal scored against KSU in 541:08. After the Golden Flashes evened the match in the second half, Washington drilled in a shot from 15 yards out off a pass from Marissa Swindell. The goal served as the eventual game-winner, which is the first of her career. Washington is the first player to score twice against KSU in 2017 and equals the total goals scored against KSU in their first nine MAC games. Her efforts helped lead BGSU to as much offensive output against the Flashes (3) as KSU's last 13 opponents had combined to score. Washington's two goals were her only two shots of the game in 39 minutes as a primary reserve.
