Walny Named MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the third consecutive week, a Bowling Green State University athlete has been awarded MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week. Redshirt junior Rachel Walny of the women's cross country team was named this week's female recipient, announced Wednesday (Oct. 4).
Walny finished third overall at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational last Friday (Sept. 29), setting a new BGSU 5K school record time of 17:09.9. She broke her own school record of 17:10.7, previously set at the Louisville Cross Country Classic last season.
An exercise science major, she currently holds a 3.99 GPA.
This is her second MAC Scholar of the Week award, having previously been honored September 20, and her third MAC honor of the season. She was named MAC Runner of the Week on September 19. It is her fourth career Scholar Athlete of the Week honor having received the recognition twice last season for cross country (Sept. 21, 2016) and track and field (April 19).
