Turner, Lemke Named Jet's Pizza Athletes Of The Week
November 13, 2017 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Swimming & Diving
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are basketball player Justin Turner and diver Talisa Lemke.
Male Athlete of the Week
Justin Turner, a redshirt freshman from Detroit, Mich., turned in a historic performance in the program's season-opening 78-69 victory at Drexel on Nov. 10. Turner registered 33 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Turner, who posted 19-second half points to help erase a 10-point halftime deficit, went 12-for-19 from the floor and 4-for-7 from downtown. Turner's 33 points were the most from a Falcon since Spencer Parker scored 33 at Detroit Mercy on Dec. 12, 2015. No other Falcon freshman this millennium has scored more than Turner's 33 points.
Female Athlete of the Week
Talisa Lemke, a sophomore from Berlin, Germany, once again broke both BGSU diving records during the Bowling Green swimming and diving dual meet at Michigan State. On Friday at McCaffree Pool, Lemke became the first Falcon diver ever to register a 300 in the one-meter event when she earned a 300.97. That broke the school record of 299.09, which she set on Nov. 4 at Miami. In the three-meter event, she shattered the school record by taking a cumulative 339.22, eclipsing the 323.70 she set on Oct. 28 at Eastern Michigan.
