Looking Back at Momentous 2017 Season for Women's Soccer
December 18, 2017 | Women's Soccer
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team entered a new era in 2017 and began it with the program's finest season in nine years. From a five-goal outburst in the season opener to the 100th minute of the MAC Tournament championship match, the Falcons repeatedly produced special moments and outstanding efforts for first-year head coach Matt Fannon.
The 2017 Falcons featured a deep roster that was loaded with experience, and Fannon coupled that with the introduction of eight new players. The result was an offense that was one of just 36 teams to average two-or-more goals per game and a suffocating defense that averaged only ten shot attempts allowed per game.
BGSU also reaped the rewards of excellence in the classroom, as ten players were named to the Academic All-MAC team. The team also earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award after posting a cumulative 3.55 grade point average during the 2016-17 academic year.
Below is a list of many of the incredible team and individual accomplishments from 2017, followed by an season-in-review interview with Coach Fannon:
