Andrea Cecil Named MAC Player of the Week

Sophomore averaged 21 points & 9 rebounds last week
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Andrea Cecil has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 27). Cecil, a sophomore, earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career.

Cecil, Falcons Down FSU
Cecil, a native of Oak Harbor, Ohio (Oak Harbor H.S.), averaged 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the Falcons' two games last week. Cecil shot 51.9 percent from the floor, going 14-for-27, and hit 13 of 18 shots from the free-throw line (72.2%).
Cecil had a career night, with her first collegiate double-double in the Falcons' 82-73 win over Ferris State at the Stroh Center (Dec. 18). She had career highs in both points and rebounds, with 26 points and 10 boards in the win. Cecil went 9-for-17 from the floor and also had an assist and a pair of steals.
Then, three nights later at Cincinnati, Cecil fell just two rebounds shy of her second double-double in as many games. She again led the Falcons in scoring, with 16 points, and tied for the team rebounding lead, with eight. She was 5-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the line against the Bearcats, adding an assist and two blocked shots. She played 37 minutes vs. FSU to tie her career high, then set a new career standard with 38 minutes played against UC.
On the season, Cecil is averaging 12.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, ranking second on the team in both categories, and she leads the Falcons in field-goal percentage, free-throw pct. and blocked shots.
Cecil earned the league Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division, Destiny Washington of Ball State was named the MAC's West Division P-O-W.
Head coach Jennifer Roos and the Falcons wrapped up the non-league portion of the schedule with a record of 8-3. BGSUÂ begins Mid-American Conference play on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 30), taking on Western Michigan University in a 2:00 p.m. start in Kalamazoo, Mich.
